How Does Picosecond Tattoo Removal Work?

Picosecond laser technology uses ultra-short pulses of energy to break tattoo ink into much smaller particles than older laser technology. These tiny particles are then gradually removed by your body over the weeks following treatment.

With three wavelengths (1064 nm, 532 nm and 755 nm), a wide range of tattoo colours can be treated. Spot sizes of up to 10 mm also allow larger areas to be treated more efficiently, helping to keep treatment times as short as possible.

 

What Should I Expect?

Tattoo removal is a gradual process, with fading continuing between appointments as your tattoo responds to treatment.

Most treatments are spaced around 8 weeks apart, although this may vary depending on how your tattoo and skin are healing. While it can be tempting to treat more frequently, allowing enough time between sessions gives your body the opportunity to continue clearing ink before your next appointment.

Why Every Tattoo Is Different

No two tattoos respond in exactly the same way.

Factors such as the colours used, the amount and depth of ink, the location of the tattoo and your individual healing response all influence the result.

Every tattoo is unique, and because tattoo inks aren’t standardised, it’s impossible to know exactly which pigments were used.

This means that even tattoos which look similar can fade at very different rates.

For this reason, a consultation and patch test are carried out before treatment if you haven’t previously had laser tattoo removal or if your tattoo hasn’t been treated by us.

 

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

There isn’t a fixed number of treatments because every tattoo responds differently.
